Les classes dans lesquelles les élèves « s'assoient et reçoivent » toute la période, faisant leur travail individuellement, manquent de la culture deinspiration, découverte et innovationdont les élèves ont besoin pour développer pleinement ces compétences. Dans quelle direction votre école veut-elle aller?

2. Y a-t-il un rôle pour les arts dans les STIM ?

Ce problème provoque une véritable tension cérébrale alors que les gens essaient de comprendre comment intégrer les arts (le « A ») dans les STEM. Vous travaillez peut-être avec un programme STEAM. Comment développez-vous ce programme d'une manière qui soit fidèle à la fois aux STEM et aux arts ?

Je me demande si l'intégration des STEM et des arts pourrait nuire aux arts en mettant l'accent uniquement sur ces applications pratiques. »

Suzanne Prueta déclaré: "Maintenant, notre tâche est de voir quel(s) type(s) ou formes d'art soutiendront le mieux l'apprentissage des mathématiques et des sciences dans les STEM intégrés... Je pense que la réponse à cette question peut être complexe et pas la même pour tous les élèves."

Carolyn a conclu avec la question que toute personne développant un programme STEAM doit se poser : « Qu'est-ce qui est unique dans les arts dont nous avons besoin dans les STEM ? Et que peuvent faire les STEM pour aider à l'éducation artistique (faire et faire de l'art) ? »

3. Nous dépendons de la diversité

Selon Ben Ingham dansMagazine STIM(p.17) la sécurité et la prospérité économique de notre pays dépendent d'une main-d'œuvre hautement qualifiée possédant des compétences avancées en STEM. La science, la technologie, l'ingénierie et les mathématiques sont à la base de l'industrie et du commerce en Amérique. Mais tu le sais.

Eh bien, réfléchissez à ceci : les chiffres montrent quefemmes et minoritéssont définitivement sous-représentés dans les domaines STEM. Ces groupes comptent de nombreuses personnes intelligentes, créatives et talentueuses qui ont ce qu'il faut pour les carrières STEM. Alors, comment votre école s'assure-t-elle qu'un groupe d'élèves large et diversifié participe aux activités et aux cours STEM ?

«Je ne peux pas m'empêcher de penser que certains de ces programmes spéciaux sont quelque peu élitistes. C'est formidable que des étudiants motivés et bien préparés aient ces opportunités, mais je serais plus enthousiaste à propos des STEM s'il y avait plus d'accent sur l'aidetousles élèves acquièrent les connaissances mathématiques, scientifiques et technologiques dont ils auront besoin pour fonctionner comme des citoyens efficaces et informés.

5. Suivre la technologie

Ouah! Ce composant STEM évolue si vite qu'il est difficile de suivre. Qu'est-ce que votre école offrira dans le domaine de la technologie ? Coder pour tous les élèves ? (Et rappelez-vous que tout ce que les étudiants créent pour répondre à un besoin est une technologie.) Pour un exemple de programme STEM axé sur la technologie, permettez-moi de vous présenter à nouveau cet exemple bien développé :La collaboration de l'armée de l'air. Jouez un peu avec. Cela semble compliqué au début, mais continuez. Ça va t'attraper !

Ce sont cinq sujets brûlants auxquels réfléchir lorsque vous planifiez, lancez ou améliorez votre programme STEM existant. Mettez-les sur votre radar STEM et intégrez-les à votre plan et à votre engagement STEM.
